ISLAMABAD, (TLTP): Rather than appreciating the goodwill gesture shown by the former boxing champion Amir Khan, who sent relief goods worth millions of rupees for their onward distribution among the poor amid COVID-19 spread, Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) Deputy Director General (Facilities), Shahid Islam served an explanation letter on PSB security in-charge Muhammad Ashraf for allowing offloading of goods in the academy.
At a critical time in Pakistan’s history when it is struggling to curb the spread of coronavirus, Amir Khan stepped forward and sent assistance, worth Rs 40 million, for the poor and needy people of Pakistan. The truck loaded with goods and daily use items arrived at academy named after Amir Khan. The labourers adopted all necessary precautions during the offloading of the material.
Insiders told this scribe that some elements in the PSB did not want to receive any aid from Aamir Khan and all such was done to bring a bad name for the Pakistani-origin boxer.
However, DDG (Facilities) Shahid Islam in letter number F.73-4/2020-PSB (Fac) sought explanation from the security in-charge on what grounds and on who’s permission “illegal” entry of truck and offloading of flour was held at Amir Khan Academy.
The letter said that a truck entered in PSB on April 7 with 10 to 12 people offloaded hundreds of flour bags at wooden floor of Amir Khan Boxing Hall.
Interestingly, Shahid is not the competent authority to issue any such letter to security in-charge, as matter of security is handled by deputy director general (administration).
When TLTP contacted Director Media Pakistan Sports Board Muhammad Azam Dar to seek his point of view on the explanatory letter to security in-charge, Dar replied, “Yes, Shahid is not the competent authority to issue such letter, as it was domain of the DDG administration.”
