Turning down the plea of former police officer of Karachi Rao Anwar for removal name from Exit Control List on Thursday Supreme Court issued directives to concerned authorities to confiscate his travelling document.
SSP Karachi Rao Anawar was arrested under allegations of murdering an aspiring model and shopkeeper of South Waziristan Naqeebullah in a fake police encounter in Karachi. However, Sindh High Court granted him bail in the matter.
During December last year, Rao Anwar has invoked apex court jurisdiction seeking removal of his name from the ECL on the grounds that he intended to travel abroad for performing Umra and to attend wedding of daughter.
A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar expressed dismay over facilitation to Rao Anwar during custody in the police in past. While addressing the country for Rao Anwar, the Chief Justice observed family of the accused can come from abroad to meet Rao.
After issuing directives to the authorities concerned to confiscate Rao Anwar’s passport, the bench dismissed the plea.
